“A
man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the
violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for
about 45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was
calculated that 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on
their way to work.
Three minutes went by, and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace, and stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet his schedule.
A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman
threw the money in the till and without stopping, and continued to walk.
A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him,
but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he
was late for work.
The one who paid the most attention was a 3
year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried, but the kid stopped
to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child
continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was
repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception,
forced them to move on.
In the 45 minutes the musician played,
only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money,
but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he
finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one
applauded, nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this, but
the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in
the world. He had just played one of the most intricate pieces ever
written, on a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.
Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.
This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro
station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social
experiment about perception, taste, and priorities of people.
The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate
hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we
recognize the talent in an unexpected context?
One of the
possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a
moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world
playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we
missing?”

For every no, there is a bigger yes
Blend the world, see what it brings
diversity is the order of things
turn and face a stranger with a smile
wear your badge of life with style
embrace your neighbors, live and let live
always remember, you are what you give
show your heart, put flowers in a gun
find the best in others, have some fun
for every no, there is a bigger yes
strive for greatness, accept nothing less
man or woman, boy or girl
open yourself, blend the world
Den här texten hittade jag bakpå en av mina t-skjortor. Fin dikt tycker jag. Det rimmar ju!

Give me your eyes
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the brokenhearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

I feel obliged to write this post in English. I've spent the day studying English nature-words (like pollution and dissemination), reading an English book and watching Lost in Austen without subtitles. Go me! :) Tomorrow's the English listening comprehension (a.k.a. hörf), the real thing, but I'm not so nervous (as I perhaps should be!) . It will go just fine, I'm sure of it.

Colorful naildesign
It had been a while since I had done a naildesign so I thought it was about time I did one. It turned out to be really good, but it took a lot of time... about 2 hours! What I did first, was that I drew silver lines (where the white lines are now), so I would be able to keep the color inside its own "box". Then I just started filling in all the squares with different colors (that's what took so long time). I used 11 different nailpolishes. When that was done I made the white lines where the silver ones had been. (Without the white lines it would have looked really messy). A fun thing for the winter, eh? :)

Day 24- What kind of person attracts you?
Well, this is a topic I like... :)
Woman: Someone who's dresses like me and who doesn't wear so much make-up. Of course, if the person is really nice, none of those superficial things matter. All women are beautiful! (And by saying this I mean how women attract me not physically, but how I would like to befriend the girl/woman)

Punttis och klibbigt golv
My friend Rebecca called me yesterday and asked if i wanted to join her and her mother in Forever. Even though I had a lot to do, I still went because it had been a while ago. And once again, I had fun! :D
Later that day I went to Elsa's to celebrate her 19th birthday. We were not so many, but we had fun. Elsas top birthdaywish was that we'd all go to Onnela the same night. I was sceptic, but I still went with the others. It was a lot of people everywhere, loud music and sticky floor. I didn't drink but enjoyed dancing with the others. I didn't like that you couldn't talk to anyone because the music was so loud, and that some jerk spilled his drink right in front of me so my left shoe got some alcohol on it... :( I knew my parents were worried, but I was really surprised when I DIDN'T get a scolding this morning about not telling them where I went and for coming home after one a.m. Instead, they were kind of curious about how it was like! I guess my parents can be cool when they want to.

Day 23- A picture of something lost
Let me explain this. When this piture was taken, I was 15 years old, had just been "konfirmerad" (it's taken on the day of my konfirmation) and was about to leave upper level (högstadiet). I was happy and carefree and didn't know what life would bring me. I'm not saying that I'm not happy now, but I've got matriculation exams coming up to worry about, I am an adult now and I soon have to know what I want to do in life (/for a living).

Preli and snowmen
I've had a couple of busy days... I'm still not used to getting up early, and I've not been sleeping so well, not a good combo I can tell you.
Yesterday I had a "modda preli" which meant that we practiced for the matriculation exam as if it was for real. In other words, I sat on the same chair for 6 hours (except 15 minutes when I ate) and could only concentrate on one thing only. No wonder I was eshausted afterwards.

It's nice having godmothers with expensive taste
Today we had my brother's 15-year-old-party but only two families turned up (we invited a lot more people but they couldn't make it). It turned out to be really nice! Yummy food, amusing company and cute children. And especially really nice since my godmother gave me (and my mom) two enormous bags with clothes she had dismissed. And let me tell you, she has a really expensive taste. Only Sand, Ril's, Benetton, Your face, Cavalli, Jackpot... you name it! I didn't want all the clothes (some were not so nice or very simple), but I definitely found some interesting pieces. 8 blouses, one pair of jeans (the pricetag was still on!) and one summerdress. That's what I call a nice catch. Oh yeah. Like Christmas all over again.

English from now on
Since my final exams are coming up in a couple of months, I thought I'd write in English on this blog for a little while until they're over. I won't perhaps write in Enlish in every entry, but I'll try my best! Hopefully I will improve my language and all of my readers will learn something, too. Feel free to correct any grammar/spelling mistakes, in fact, PLEASE DO SO!!! :D

Favorit ord
